STANDARD FAQs

What level of sun protection do FACTOR BERMUDA suits provide?
Our suits are rated at UPF 50+. This is the highest UPF rating available, blocking 98%+ of UVA & UVB rays.

What is UPF?
UPF stands for 'Ultraviolet Protection Factor' and indicates how much of the sun's ultraviolet radiation (UV rays) are absorbed by the fabric. A fabric with a rating of UPF 50+ will allow only 1/50th of the sun's UV rays to pass through to your skin. This means the fabric will reduce your skin's UV radiation exposure significantly, blocking 98%+ of UV radiation.

What are UVA and UVB rays?
The sun damages your skin through different types of ultraviolet radiation. There are two main types of UV rays. UVA rays penetrate the skin deeply and are responsible for aging your skin resulting in wrinkles, hyper pigmentation, reduced skin elasticity, the degradation of skin texture, and many other signs of skin aging. UVB rays are responsible for burning your skin, and are the primary cause of skin cancers.

How does SPF differ from UPF?
SPF stands for 'Sun Protection Factor' and is used for rating sunscreen. SPF measures sunscreen protection from UVB rays. SPF does not measure how well a sunscreen will protect from UVA rays which are also damaging.

What advantages does UPF have over SPF?
UPF fabrics offer consistent physical protection against UVA & UVB rays while SPF sunscreens offer limited, topical protection. The advantage of physical UPF protection is that it does not wash off or require numerous applications like sunscreen. UPF is also more environmentally friendly, reducing the amount of chemicals in the ocean and damage to sea life to which many sunscreen chemicals contribute.

How is UPF fabric different from 'normal' fabric?
Not all clothing is created equal in terms of sun protection. The tightness of the weave, the weight, type of fiber, color and amount of skin covered all affect the amount of sun protection that fabrics provide. For example, a basic white cotton t-shirt generally provides a low level of protection from the sun with an average of UPF 5, which is further reduced when wet.

What level of skin coverage do FACTOR BERMUDA suits provide?
Our collection offers a range of different levels of skin coverage from our fully covered Bateau neck silhouette to our moderately covered Plunge neck silhouette in effort to offer a wide range of wardrobe flexibility, styling options and levels of sun protection.

Studies show one of the areas of the body most prone to sun damage and skin cancers is the back which is fully covered in all FACTOR styles. To ensure the highest level of sun protection in all of our suits, we recommend that you apply a minimum 30 SPF sunscreen to any sun exposed skin and practice safe sun.

We also recommend pairing our suits with our coordinating head wraps to offer additional protection to your forehead and ears, extra sensitive areas highly prone to sun exposure and sunburn.

How do FACTOR BERMUDA suits help to fight aging of the skin?
Sun-related aging of the skin is avoidable. Sun exposure is responsible for most of the visible aging of the skin, far more than all other factors combined. UV rays are the primary cause of wrinkles, hyper pigmentation, reduced skin elasticity, the degradation of skin texture, and many other signs of skin aging. FACTOR suits offer a high physical barrier against sun-related aging to the skin, ultimately helping to keep your skin looking its best.

How can I transition my FACTOR BERMUDA garment from swimwear to ready-to-wear?
Our collection is designed to offer a wide range of wardrobe flexibility and styling options. Simply remove the belt and style as a bodysuit, effortlessly transitioning from swimwear to ready-to-wear.

How do FACTOR BERMUDA suits fit?
Since all fabrics are prone to stretching when wet, our collection is designed for a firm, second skin fit, sculpting the body in the most flattering way both in and out of the water. With this in mind, please take care when slipping in and out of your suit. Complete fitting details can be found on our 'Fitting' page, link below.

Do FACTOR BERMUDA suits offer support to the bust?
While our suits do not offer specific bust support in terms of an internal support/bra, our fabric offers a generous amount of stretch and our suits are made for a firm fit, providing moderate support to the average bust.

What is seamless construction?
Seamless construction is a unique and luxurious method of sewing a garment with fewer visible seams. This adds to the comfort of the garment allowing the fabric to lay flat at the edges, fitting like a second skin.

Where are FACTOR BERMUDA suits made?
Our collection is inspired in Bermuda and ethically made in LA & New York.
